Welcome, and thank you for joining us at the 38th Annual City of Tampa Black History Celebration! This year's theme, Honoring Our Veterans: Celebrating 250 Years of Service and Strength, highlights 15 local veterans who are making a difference within City of Tampa government and throughout the Tampa Bay region. I extend my thanks to the members of COTBHC, past presidents, our founders, community partners, volunteers, and employees of the City of Tampa for 38 years of dedicated service promoting African American culture!

Keynote Speaker: Chief Barbara Tripp, Tampa Fire Rescue

Chief Barbara Tripp, Tampa’s first female Fire Chief, is a decorated 31-year fire service veteran and Navy veteran. With extensive credentials in emergency management and nursing, she’s driven impactful change in public safety and community outreach. Honored for her leadership and compassion, Chief Tripp remains devoted to empowering others, uplifting her community, and living Maya Angelou’s words: “People will never forget how you made them feel.”

Mistress of Ceremonies: Deanna King, WFLA News Channel 8

Deanne King is WFLA’s morning Traffic Anchor, “For the Culture” reporter, and 8 a.m. anchor for The CW Tampa Bay. She elevates minority voices, hosts the “Rooted in Progress” podcast, and serves on local boards in Tampa Bay.

An Alpha Kappa Alpha member and dedicated storyteller, Deanne is passionate about impactful journalism and community service.
