Arizona Jenkins

Arizona Jenkins is a remarkable individual who has overcome significant challenges to become an inspirational leader and advocate for people with disabilities. Born in 1975 with cerebral palsy, doctors told his mother not to bother taking him home as he did not have much longer to live. However, through multiple surgeries and dedicated care, Arizona defied expectations and grew into a powerful voice for the disability community. Despite paralysis on the left side of his body and limited use of his right hand, Arizona demonstrates remarkable independence and adaptability. He skillfully operates a motorized wheelchair and stays connected using a cell phone with a Bluetooth receiver.

While he faces speech difficulties, he perseveres in communication, willingly repeating himself to ensure understanding. Arizona’s advocacy work spans local, state, and national levels. He serves as the Founder, President, and Treasurer of New Horizon Support Group, and is a Fellow and Advisor with the Florida Self-Advocates Network’D (FL SAND). His tireless efforts and infectious smile make him an invaluable resource, available 24/7 to support his community.

Arizona’s journey from a challenging beginning to becoming an inspirational leader showcases the power of perseverance and the importance of assuming competence in individuals with disabilities.
